She might have discounted the stories as watery stuff of legends, even though she knew legends were based on reality. Perhaps in a world which tilted just slightly off its fickle axis, everything would have been completely different, but it wasn’t, and so Yoruichi was Soi Fon’s world.

In this world, she would get to know Yoruichi in an intimate way, not by sharing kisses and hugs and their bodies, but by giving Yoruichi everything she had. Soi Fon knew what was expected of her as a servant, but as that passive process of life wore on, she’d realized how much she’d given to her mistress, until what she had was infinitely little and what she no longer had had begun transcending the distinctions between mistress and servant. Maybe she would have preferred if it were so, but she knew that re-christening the relationship they had would be a mindless repetition of what they already knew.

She liked to believe, once she’d grown up and found herself tailed by cynicism, that even if she hadn’t been brought up to treat Yoruichi-sama like the goddess she was, she would have been inclined to do so on her own accord. On lousier days, Soi Fon would stop fighting destiny and admit that she was fated to serve Yoruichi-sama. It was always a relief, in some sense, even though the circumstances which prompted such acknowledgements were often nothing like so.

They were indifferent to what the others thought of them – the princess who didn’t care for propriety and her devoted subordinate who was far too affectionate with her charge. Soi Fon was tentative to accept it, still wary and conscious of society and its rules, but Yoruichi was oblivious. At least, she made Soi Fon think so. That night under the full moon and the cherry blossoms, Soi Fon was certain they were truly friends. She was adamant in her unwillingness to associate that night with the moon and the flowers, for their friendship was absolutely nothing like either. She knew it would not be like the transient moon, she could look up in the sky one night and see something unrecognizable the next. Neither would it be like the cherry blossom – so fickle and fleeting. The petals tore under nails and stayed there. She would not remember either of the above, when Yoruichi was on her lap. Neither moved, and Soi Fon thought she was overwhelmed by the trust Yoruichi had in her. When Yoruichi spoke to say goodnight, there was no yawning silence, no expectant beat in which both waited for one to profess similarly. Yoruichi would not expect Soi Fon to say anything, and Soi Fon would not, but she would give her life to Yoruichi if she had not already done so, take it back and offer it again if need be.

Sometime in her life Soi Fon chose to scarcely recall, Yoruichi left. And then the yawning silence grew, so much that Soi Fon found herself behaving like the insipid jilted lover. The selfish reason for her vengeance was that she’d given everything and pledged everything to Yoruichi, who had left her like that?

But…it wasn’t. She knew she wasn’t spiteful like that.

What else could she have done, surrendered to the plague of loneliness? She reckoned that Yoruichi had taken a part of her along when she fled the soul society like a traitor. The word tasted salty like tears on her tongue. Had Yoruichi felt a part of her tear apart and drift away, too, as she ran away from Soi Fon that night? The bitter rage was welcome, like a balm to her vulnerability.

Then the stage was set by the Ryoka – Soi Fon felt like the unwelcome invader barging into the sanctity of the coy, quietly promising forest. Had it been waiting like a single sentient organism, watching as a new chapter of the Yoruichi-and-Soi-Fon saga enfolded? How stupid of her to think she’d be on par with her mistress, she cried as her legs crumbled without receiving a single blow. How stupid of her to think that perhaps by defeating the infallible Yoruichi she had known her whole life, she could overcome the similar walls that had been shrinking around her for the past, painful one hundred years. All of a sudden disillusion took her mind; she was back to another place in time with her knees pinned to the floor and tentative eyes sneaking shy glances at her mistress.

When Yoruichi wrapped her lithe arms around Soi Fon’s shoulders, the gesture was shockingly familiar and the warm-as-honey voice even more so: “You’ve grown stronger.”

Soi Fon choked a laugh through the tears burning her cheeks; she had never felt weaker in her life

Firstly, I'm truly sorry for the lateness of this fic, and furthermore, I've shamefully only managed to get one part done.
There was an unexpected holiday and then an exam which got me quite busy, though my exam's ended today so I promise the rest of the fic (2 more parts, each about 1000 words, and I will try my best to include humour) will be in really soon - perhaps five days.

Another thing: I actually had another fic drafted out for you which would include all the characters and pairings you asked for, in an AU sort of setting. But I settled for this more...orthodox, sensible plot, which comes off very trite to me. Would you like me to still write this second fic for you, to say sorry for being tardy and fail?
It would include...
Aristocrat!Neliel and Yoruichi, Assasin!Nnoitra, Pedo-doctor!Ryuuken, Maid!Soi Fon, and Detective!Stark.
><
Anyway...I hope you'll like the fic when the whole thing is finished!
